The Association for Micro Hydroelectric Power (AMHEP) aspires to grow adoption of microgrid hydroelectric technology across the U.S., specifically targeting single structures and very small communities. Currently, this technology requires a level of expertise and customization, plus regulatory and permitting requirements, which make it a higher cost alternative to solar and wind microgrids. Yet, hydroelectric power is inherently more resilient with a smaller physical footprint and lower maintenance needs. With mass production, it also promises to be lower cost than other clean energy alternatives.

We are helping grow the online community for support and success stories. Our staff provides remote online and video conference expertise, relieving microgrid owners of much of the need to learn power engineering concepts themselves. AMHEP partners with a number of U.S. suppliers to sponsor new innovations and manufacturing, notably for easy-to-use equipment with capability for remote monitoring and maintenance.
